Sometimes a senior session lasts a little longer than just the session itself. In my Dream Team program, we get the opportunity to photograph with each other for a whole year! This is where Grass Lake Senior Katrina Nichol started her journey with me!
For 12 months(minus her missing the last month because of COVID-19 shutdown) we got to hang out and create some stunning images of Katrina. It’s a fun process to see how the seniors change throughout their last year of high school. For sure one of my favorite sessions was creating a moody halloween image with some dry ice! Katrina picked a great makeup look and we recreated it to give her some beautiful but moody halloween images!
For her senior portraits we did some very simple yet elegant images around my home studio. I really feel that some of the most simple and beautifully lit photos with minimal distractions will create portraits that become timeless. Katrian’s portraits do just that! Katrina’s Favorite moment was when her mom watched Jenny, My then 7 month old, while we played out getting the amazing photos done.
Even though senior year has gotten cut short, Katrina’s favorite part of her senior year was getting to cheer every Friday night under the lights with her amazing cheer team. She is currently staying in touch with her friends thru snapchat and facetime. They play iMessage games and have large group calls over Facetime. She, like many of her friends, are missing the final parts of their senior year, prom and possibly even graduation.
Her advice to other seniors during this Stay Home order. “Start working out! I’ve been working out so much more and I’ve been so happy with it! Try to do anything you can while staying safe! Go for a walk or run. Get some fresh air but follow the 6 feet rule!”
Katrina heads off to Siena Heights University on a scholarship and will be studying pre-med! She doesn’t leave high school without giving some sound advice to upcoming Juniors. “Stay on top of things and don’t let senioritis hit too hard! You got this! Also do not take any part of it for granted because you will be sad the day it comes to an end!” That for sure is the truth for all Class of 2020 seniors who had their senior year come to an abrupt halt!
Katrina is a very caring and kind person who absolutely loves babies. Her favorite thing to do is shop with her friends! During these difficult times, she lets God guide her thru.
If she could pick one super power, it would be to read minds. “I would like to know what people think of me, so this would be helpful!” Her spirit animal would be a dolphin because of how intelligent they are.
My heart breaks for you Katrina and all your classmates on how your senior year is ending! But keep your heads up and know you are being born into a new chapter of your life thru adversity and it will only make you stronger!
