It was another beautiful fall day in Jackson, Michigan when the Layne's gathered for their family portraits. I had met Erin the previous year when we both volunteered for popcorn Friday at our children’s school. We quickly became friends and it was always fun to see her each month and pop some popcorn for the school.
It was another beautiful fall day in Jackson, Michigan when the Layne's gathered for their family portraits. We had picked the Country Club of Jackson because we knew there would be fall colors around there somewhere. Plus it's always a bonus when I get to hop on a golf cart for my session adventures:)
I love when my clients trust in my process and when I say “ok, we are going to climb in to this thick woods” and they follow along behind!
The lighting was just beautiful back in this section of the woods and there was lower fall leaves that has changed. Ideally, when I photograph fall photos, later fall works out to be better because the colors change later in those leaves and they are the ones in your photos.
Once we captured their portraits, it was then decision time.
I ask each of my clients. Where do you want to see these photos now? In 5 Years? And in 10 years? I believe we should be printing our portraits and displaying them so we can enjoy them each and everyday.
As homework, Erin sent me over some photos of her walls and I went over to her home to talk wall portrait design and we found the perfect spots for the different portraits she liked. It really is a simple process once we start talking about where portraits are wanted to be displayed.
Here is what Erin had to say about their session and where her portraits hang now!
“Getting family pictures taken has never really been a priority for me. Every few years I’d look around at the pictures we have and think well the kids have really grown, time to get more pictures....so I’d ask around for a recommendation and go with that.
This past year I really just wanted a nice family picture for our Christmas card. I’d met Carrie and knew she did photography. Over time I’d occasionally mention I’d really like to do family pictures and we finally nailed down a date. The session lasted probably longer than it should but it flew by and felt like hanging out with a friend.
When it was time to preview the pictures as like in the past I anticipated walking in and struggling to find a picture that was “card worthy.” You know, everyone looking at the camera, hair in place, clothes straight, etc. Carrie started showing me the photos and I sat silently admiring her work as tears rolled down my face. They were so much more than I could have hoped for. The lighting was great, the angles were perfect and I couldn’t choose just one picture for our card. Carrie captured the love our family shares so beautifully. I not only had a beautiful Christmas card but now I have beautiful works on art on my walls of the the people I love the most.
Carries photos are so much more than just pictures they truly are works of art. I cannot wait for our session next year for that perfect “card worthy” picture and so much more. Carrie thank you for sharing your talent with my family!”
