When you get to see your neighbors everyday, you don’t realize how quickly they grow up. That was the case with me and my next Class of 2020 Senior feature. Lindsey Sykes has been a neighbor of mine for the last 8 years since we moved in to her neighborhood in late 2011. After seeing her and her brothers all the time, it was hard to believe it was time for Lindsey’s senior portraits.
When deciding on where to go for senior portraits, I always ask my seniors and their parents if there is anywhere special they like to go, or that has meaning to them. Sometimes it’s their own yard, sometimes it’s a family members house and other times it’s a park. Lindsey chose to go to the Dahlem Center because it was a place that meant a lot to her since her friends and her spent a lot of time there.
After starting at the studio and doing some photos here, we headed out to the Dahlem Center. My favorite part was walking way out to a clearing and finding a large tree that had fallen over. It’s always fun to adventure out to areas not so commonly used. It was great creating some images out in the fields of tall grass. You can’t beat some tall grass and pretty light!
Lindsey plans for next year include going to Jackson College for her first semester or first year and then transferring to Grand Valley. She is really into art and graphic design and is considering pursuing that as a career. Since senior year got cut short, she is going to miss prom and walking across the stage to get her diploma and is hoping they postpone it until the summer! I hope they do too Lindsey!
Her advice for upcoming juniors is that your grades still matter! So keep working hard.
Her family just moved before the COVID-19 shut down so she has been spending lots of time getting settled into their new house and hanging out with her siblings watching movies. She has some funny memories with her youngest brother because it loves to come in and say random things to her! We sure miss that in the neighborhood too!
Lindsey would like to be invisible, if she had a chance to pick her own super power! Because she would get away with a lot more. Her spirit animal of choice would be a sloth, because they enjoy sleeping and that’s definitely my favorite activity too!
It has been such an honor capturing your senior portraits for you Lindsey and my heart breaks for you and your other senior friends who are missing the end of their high school careers! Keep your head up and try to find the positive!
Check out the rest of Lindsey’s senior portraits below and leave her some love!

Lara - Linds, I am so heartbroken that you don’t get to experience one of the best moments of your life. Just remember that you worked so hard to get to that graduation and even though you don’t get to “walk” you are always walking towards something new. Sending our love. Love the photos. Can’t wait to celebrate with you and all your accomplishments. Well done! Class of 2020 is nothing shy of remarkable.
